چکیده

Mastering the complexity of programs and systems, particularly distributed systems, should lead to signi cant improvements in program and system understanding. In this paper we present a formal approach for (distributed) software understanding based on abstraction hierarchies represented by architectural design patterns. This approach allows us to model the distributed software applications through a formal model representing the underlying structure. The representation uses instances of architectural design patterns which can hide details that may be irrelevant in speci c situations. The formal models which are produced could be used as a basis for reasoning, code generation, and measuring the "goodness" of a design.

Use of Patterns in Formal Development: Systematic Transition from Problems to Architectural Designs

We present a pattern-based software lifecycle and a method that supports the systematic execution of that lifecycle. First, problem frames are used to develop a formal specification of the problem to be solved. In a second phase, architectural styles are used to construct an architectural specification of the software system to be developed. That specification forms the basis for fine-grained d...

This article considers the utilization of architectural styles in the formal design of knowledge-based systems. The formal model of a style is an approach to systems modeling that allows software developers to understand and prove properties about the system design in terms of its components, connectors, configurations, and constraints. This allows commonality of design to be easily understood ...

Developing Reliable yet Flexible Software through If-Then Model Transformation Rules

Developing reliable yet flexible software is a hard problem. Although modeling methods enjoy a lot of advantages, the exclusive use of just one of them, in many cases, may not guarantee the development of reliable and flexible software. Formal modeling methods ensure reliability because they use a rigorous approach to software development. However, lack of knowledge and high cost practically fo...

A Pattern-Based Approach to Structural Design Composition

This paper describes an approach to component-based software engineering based on a formal description of design patterns. The architectural design information, captured by design patterns, is made explicit and represented in a declarative way, being packaged into tangible artifacts as building block design components in the development process. These design component descriptions can be instan...

Recognizing the Role of Idea and Concept in Understanding and Creation in Architecture Relying on the "Four Causes"

Today, the increasing realities that have occupied architects in other fields related to architecture, have caused the designerchr('39')s attention to deviate from the theoretical thinking that was considered at the beginning of the design process. Architectural software has expanded the visual dimensions of the human mind and created the conditions for the designerchr('39')s thinking to be lim...
